When the bride is from Texas and the groom is from Australia, you can’t find a more beautiful middle ground on which to hold your nuptials than Hawaii, and that’s why Elysia and Bryce chose Haiku Mill for their destination wedding. With the lush island landscape all around, Elysia chose understated colors to ground the decor, such pink and cream florals from Dellables and a vintage vibe with decor such as hanging chandeliers and glass and silver accents. Bridesmaids wore gray gowns that softly accented Elysia’s column-style gown, a classic look that’s unexpected but gorgeous. Vintage lace accents on her veil are stunning, and we love the bold look of her bright blue shoes paired with the traditional gown. Enjoy these ethereal images from Tamiz Photography!

when magic is required...Dellables is there!
I'm going to just say it: you are going to want more from this when you are finished browsing the images below ... you will feel like your life won't be complete until you see more images from Connie and Wesley's wedding day ... Don't worry, I won't let you down ;) In just a few days, you will get your wish when I share the beautiful portraits from their day, which were clicked on Maui by the truly incredibleTamiz Photography. BUT!!! Until then, feast your eyes on this ... the amazing story of their wedding day, told with eye-candy and an interview with the bride, Connie. I said over Twitter yesterday (and I meant it!!!) that when I see photographs by Tamiz Photography, I hold my breath ... they make me stop breathing ... if this is your first time seeing their images, which I highly doubt, give it a try ... guaranteed, you might be a little dizzy after ;)
I hired Mira Maui for makeup and hair. I really liked her charisma over the phone as well as the way of her doing business. She got really busy in the middle of my planning, but assured me of her professionalism. On my wedding trial, she put me at ease, and on my wedding day, she blew me away by the job she did on our mothers and bridesmaids as well as on me! She was super flexible on driving from both the hotel and the venue, which helped ease my planning. You are in wonderful hands with Mira in the department of hair and makeup! She is super confident and has great ideas! If you don't want to give much direction and look gorgeous on your wedding day, I highly recommend Mira.
I decided to go with Vintage and Lace from the Big Island because of her portfolio as well as the feeling I got from our first phone call and she really cares about her clients. Rachael really stayed by my side throughout my 11 months of planning! She was very quick to respond to emails and gave great suggestions. She listened and paid attention to our needs. Most importantly, when booking, she wasn't concerned about how big or small our budget for the wedding was. She also gave a great payment plan to make it more flexible for our growing expenses during the wedding planning.
Tamiz Photography was the photographer I REALLY wanted after seeing their work in Pacific Weddings magazine as well as the Style Me Pretty blog. I was following them for a while and as soon as I booked my venue, I booked them. I already contacted them prior to my venue booking to make sure they were available! I really loved the way they work with sunlight and there is almost a painterly quality in their photographs. What was really special was the packaging that they ended up sending our photos in for a keepsake.
Our florist was Dellables and we loved the flowers! My favorite was our ceremony arch and our head table centerpieces! We wanted our centerpieces to be a little bit different at each table with a mixture of tea cups, tea pots, glass bottles, and milk glass votive candles. I liked working with Dellables because they would put together a visual board and then do a final walk-through 6 weeks before the wedding. Trish was there to calm me down when I was anxious and everything worked out!
I've always wanted an island or paradise wedding. It just worked out so perfectly that both Wes and our parents did not insist on us having a typical Chinese banquet. We were able to have our unique vacation wedding! It was both Wes and my first time in Maui, which makes it a very special memory.
Our dear friend King Do was the officiant in our wedding. Huey and Cac did a special blessing in our ceremony and this is a couple that we admire.
A small, intimate, and dreamy event was what I wanted and so I came up with a vintage modern fairytale theme. A friend said after our engagement that we were the "fairytale love story of 2013". I loved vintage elements with a modern feeling combined with a fairytale aspect.
Aloha Events Catering catered our event! We had requested some special drinks including a lychee martini and blueberry lemonade in mason jars. Some of my guests who normally don't drink, loved our lychee martini! Also, in terms of the food, we had Prime Rib Garlic and Herb, Potato-Wasabi encrusted Fish, and Mango-Corn Bread Stuffed Pork Tenderloin. For Appetizers, we picked Seared Beef Tenderloins with Horseradish Cream on Rye Crostini, Kalua Pork Sliders, and Ahi Tartar layered in shot glasses. Several comments from guests included that this was the best food that they tasted on Maui!
We decided to have a cake topper with a cupcakes. I felt it was easier for people to eat and Maui Sweet Cakes did an exceptional job. I wanted my cupcakes to have a lace wrapper and sugar pearls. Her frosting was amazing! I loved her unique flavors and I even ordered a Chocolate Mint that wasn't part of her menu and it was so delicious! The other flavors we had were Red Velvet, Maui Pineapple & Coconut, and Kalua Strawberries & Cream. Mind Blown! Also, our cake topper were created to look just like us in cartoon form! It was adorable. I got it from 100% Originals on Etsy.
I choose Hale Ko'olani because it was a new wedding venue. I also loved its magnificent structure and architecture. I thought it would work well with our wedding theme and because the venue looked incredible, I didn't need that much decor to add to the location. Although ... I still wanted beautiful flowers ;)
1) Hire a wedding planner or at least a day-of coordinator. They will help a lot with the day of! 2) Etsy was my best friend for the wedding! 3) Most important is the photographer and videographer (they seal your memories) 4) Don't be too bothered by minor details on day-of.

Getting to know them both so well really let me put my heart into the entire production. Recently featured on Style Me Pretty! photography by Tamiz Photography

First things first, where did you meet your husband? How did you know he was the one?
How did he propose? Tell us the story!
Once the wedding plans started, what made you decide on a Vera Wang gown?
Texture, Quality, Architecture, Fit, Textiles, Color.
Debra Moreland PARIS “Glad Tidings” Necklace, Kantor Diamonds (earring studs), Jimmy Choo “Diva” Shoes
Kiawe Arch by Dellables
What was the inspiration or theme for your wedding?
It all started with the dress. I tried on the white version of Vera Wang’s ‘Hayley’ and knew I absolutely did NOT want a white dress (boring and not me) and when I found out it also was available in nude I jumped on the opportunity and ordered it blind. Vera’s inspiration and vision of the ‘Hayley’ had me hook, line and sinker. She said that the dress embodied “the pageantry of the Paris Opera”. SOLD!! I admire textiles and the “Hayley” has major textiles. Vera used fabric manipulations in place of sparkle in order to give the dress vavoom. I have a personal affinity for dresses worn by the noble women in the 19th century. This dress delivered not only the 19th century but a bouncing and yet organic look that I felt complimented the environment around me (oh Hawaii). The venue was chosen due to its juxtaposed nature to our couture attire and then balanced out with a Native American infused ceremony officiated by my step-father (my mom, sister/maid of honor, step-father and myself are all Native American). An event balanced by fantasy and reality.
Did you incorporate any other Vera Wang products into your wedding? If so how?
My super spoiled and well-deserved twin sister and maid of honor (Heidi Bostrom) wore the “Jane” dress.
Did you stay true to the Old English wedding rhyme: Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. If so, what were yours?
Sort of….My mom pinned a 100 year old handkerchief to the inside of my dress which represented the honor of our family of the past (old). Everything was new (new). My borrowed component came from the eagle that dropped our beautiful ceremonial eagle feathers (borrowed). My hand made garter offered a sweet touch of blue (blue).
What tips do you have for new brides picking out their wedding dress?
1. Bring an honest friend, a non-honest friend, a mom (more of a statement versus a literal definition), and an open mind. 2. Envision your venue, imagine the environment, and then determine how you can become a complimentary component to it all. 3. If all else fails…try, try again. 4. Remember, ITS YOUR WEDDING!!!!! Someone offering to buy your dress is considered to be a gift not an unsaid oral contract for dictatorship.
What was your favorite part of the day? And, are there any other anecdotes you would like to share?
First of all I would have to say that the ceremony was my favorite part. It was unlike anything anyone has ever seen. We did an exchange of eagle feathers, spoke our vows (a Cherokee Prayer), exchanged in special gifts for John’s kids, and my step-father was our officiant. The ceremony meant so much to me spiritually.
The most fun part was the pictures! I asked Rebecca and Jonathan (TAMIZ Photography) prior to the shoot with John and me that I would like our pictures to be shot like an editorial. I wanted our pictures to look vogue and artistic. I wanted them to look staged but not. Being of an artsy background I would not tolerate ‘the norm’. John and I had sooo much fun doing the shoot.
Well, this whole wedding was ‘do it yourself’. John and I planned every detail to our wedding. We made amazing friends with our vendors and were able to experience the entire process, start to finish. I highly advise, if you have the organizational skills and enjoy sleepless nights, to plan your wedding. We both carry an invaluable connection having survived the process and a feeling of self-gratification and accomplishment as we watched our wedding grow from conception to birth. I personally would not have done it any other way.
We are really thrilled, seriously THRILLED, to be featured in this trend setting Wedding blog! Enjoy!
Florals, ARCH and a great deal of magic provided by the DELLABLES crew
Are you ready for some drama and pure unadulterated elegance this morning? Well you’d better get ready, because oh boy am I gonna give it to you…
Hollie & John were married in Maui in April. The couple had a big hand in everything they planned. Although they hired suppliers to fulfil their wedding dreams, they were both there from start to finish. “John and I planned every detail”, began the bride. “We made amazing friends with our vendors and were able to experience the entire process from start to finish. I highly advise, if you have the organizational skills and enjoy sleepless nights, to plan your own wedding. We both carry an invaluable connection having survived the process and a feeling of self-gratification and accomplishment as we watched our wedding grow from conception to birth. I personally would not have done it any other way.”
