MAUI ANIMAL FARM WEDDING: HOLLIE & JOHN

Are you ready for some drama and pure unadulterated elegance this morning? Well you’d better get ready, because oh boy am I gonna give it to you…

Hollie & John were married in Maui in April. The couple had a big hand in everything they planned. Although they hired suppliers to fulfil their wedding dreams, they were both there from start to finish. “John and I planned every detail”, began the bride. “We made amazing friends with our vendors and were able to experience the entire process from start to finish. I highly advise, if you have the organizational skills and enjoy sleepless nights, to plan your own wedding. We both carry an invaluable connection having survived the process and a feeling of self-gratification and accomplishment as we watched our wedding grow from conception to birth. I personally would not have done it any other way.”

The one thing they didn’t make themselves, though, was Hollie’s incredible Vera Wang wedding gown, which set the elegant tone for the entire day. “Our inspiration all started with the dress”. she continued. “I tried on the white version of Vera Wang’s ‘Hayley’ and knew I absolutely did not want a white dress (boring and not me) and when I found out it also was available in nude I jumped on the opportunity and ordered it blind. Vera’s inspiration and vision of the ‘Hayley’ gown had me hook, line and sinker. She said that the dress embodied ‘the pageantry of the Paris Opera’ and I was SOLD!! I admire textiles and ‘Hayley’ has major textiles. Vera used fabric manipulations in place of sparkle in order to give the dress vavoom.”

The ceremony was held at Lahaina Animal Farm & Guest Ranch and the Spago restaurant at the Four Seasons was their reception space. “First of all I would have to say that the ceremony was my favorite part. It was unlike anything anyone has ever seen. We did an exchange of eagle feathers, spoke our vows (a Cherokee prayer), exchanged special gifts for John’s kids, and my step-father was our officiant. The ceremony meant so much to me spiritually.”

With February vacations in full swing we’re day-dreaming of some sand between our toes. So when this Maui photo shoot came across our desks, we started to pack our bags. Brought to us by a truly talented team of wedding experts, this shoot is full of fresh island inspiration. With photography by Anna Kim Photography and styling by La Fleur Weddings & Events and Davia Lee Events it’s a playfully preppy twist on the tropical wedding. Sun-kissed skin, beachy waves, and beautiful, bold details are totally our kind of paradise… so let’s take a trip to somewhere warm, right here in the gallery.

From Anna… Inspired by the vibrant colors of summer, fashion and a unique take on an island romance, this isn’t your average wedding. It is a fun, carefree cocktail-style wedding with a classic Maui backdrop of blue water, palm trees and tropical colors.
This bride loves bright colors, fashion & the waters of Maui. She wanted to keep her dress a classic white, but bring in fun details with the textures, details and length. She then brought in pops of color through her accessories and a tropical bouquet.
Tropical flowers in vibrant colors would dress the table with details that would leave guests thinking they stepped back in time to a retro pool party. Bright pops of color are continued throughout the table with accents from the linens. Fun patterns were brought in with the linens and place settings to add another fun dimension and unexpected element.
LOVE was the theme for the shoot & what better way to portray that than with oversized letters spelling out the word next to the cake table.

ABOUT THIS WEDDING

If you want an intimate beach wedding, miles away from everyone and everything, there is no better place than Maui. Amanda & Jeff live in chilly Canada, and packed their bags for some seriously gorgeous scenery and warm beaches. We really could not think of anything more romantic than saying your I dos with sand between your toes, and the sun setting over a gorgeous ocean. We are so very happy that Maui wedding photographer, Karma Hill, shared the beauty with us today!
Amanda and Jeff wanted a private destination wedding, wanting to get away from the cold back home in Canada, they chose the tropical shores of Maui!

The Couple

HIM
Jeff is a joker and took every opportunity to have fun on his wedding day, he makes Amanda laugh the most and you can tell he absolutely adores this woman.
HER
Amanda is a force of nature, the moment you meet her you immediately feel welcomed and warm. Her energy is amazing.
TOGETHER
The couple exudes love, for each other and their adorable 21 month old daughter. You can tell from the way they look at each other to the little gestures they make when they interact.

Do-It-Yourself

Amanda surprised Jeff with engraved hearts just after their ceremony and a first dance right on the beach to their favorite song playing on her iPhone. It was a very special moment that we were happy to be there to document.

Words of Wisdom

Be Yourself!! This wedding is so beautiful because the couple had so much fun, they didn't worry about the camera, they just had an awesome wedding day!

What's Next

Enjoying life with their daughter back home in Canada.

Maui Wedding from Wendy Laurel

It’s bound to be a beautiful Monday when the amazingly talented Wendy Laurel is involved and this family-centered Maui wedding simply couldn’t be any prettier. Keeping things low-key and intimate, this bride + groom (along with their four children) said “I Do” on a private estate with a traditional Hawaiian ceremony. Stunning florals from Dellables and an (almost) too-pretty-to-eat cake from Maui Wedding Cakes added to the already perfect day. See the rest right here!

From Wendy Laurel… Dana and Roland escaped from their busy lives in Oregon and ran away with their kids in tow (three of his, one of hers) to a beautiful palm estate on the west side of Maui to get married. Dana planned the wedding and ceremony for an early morning to catch the clean, bright light and really bring out the Maui colors. Yellow details and flowers made the ceremony pop against the bright blue skies and lush green of the Maui backdrop. It was gorgeous and low-key for the family so that everyone could enjoy the day. The same pastor from the Modern Family Hawaii episode presided over the ceremony, giving it an authentic Hawaiian touch.

Oh, Maui…could you be any more gorgeous with lush landscapes + picturesque beaches? I think not. Every single image by Tamiz Photography capturing this fairytale destination wedding is filled with perfect light and so much LOVE!  La Fleur Weddings & Events + Dellables piled on the pretty in the bride’s “lilac + lemonade” color palette and I can’t  help but smile at the maid’s flouncy White by Vera Wang dresses! There is so much more to see (and swoon over) in the full gallery!(32, 32, 32) 1px 1px 0px;" target="_blank">Dellables

From the Bride… Although Ben and I briefly met through work over a decade ago in Taiwan, we would not have the chance to become close friends until many years later. Through several twists of fate, we fell in love in New York City, and Ben ended up proposing to me over a rainbow as we flew over Niagara Falls in a helicopter! I had always dreamed of having a wedding that is both modern and intimate. As Ben and I had friends and family scattered all over the world, we wanted our wedding to be memorable and worth traveling for. After doing extensive research, I fell in love with the magnificent Oceanside Wedding Chapel and grounds of the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui, Hawaii.
I was also lucky to find the right vendors that I had envisioned for the important day. Jill LaFleur provided thoughtful inspirations to complement my desire to have a “Lilac and Lemonade” color palette for my wedding, in the form of delicate Hawaiian table decorations and the elegant lemonade stand. Della Peacock personally presented me with the bridal bouquet of my dreams, featuring some of my favorite flowers, from David Austin roses to peonies. Mira did an incredible job with all our hair as well as makeup and made the mood of the day light and full of laughter. All the exquisite flowers, pretty decorations and wonderful emotions were beautifully captured by Rebecca and Jonathan from Tamiz Photography. I could not have asked for a better team for my wedding.
For the ceremony, we were fortunate to have had such a gorgeous day! It was a comfortably breezy 75 degrees with barely a cloud in the sky. The chapel location was as beautiful as we had imagined with our decorated chuppah overlooking the deep blue ocean. It was such a very happy day for both us as we celebrated our nuptials in front of nearly 50 friends and family who had traveled from all over the world to share our special moment. We both feel very lucky to have each other and to have the ones we loved the most bear witness to our matrimony in a place that will always be memorable in our hearts.

From Jana of Jana Morgan Photography… Sylvia and Justin came to Maui from Canada to get married at the Olowalu Plantation House to celebrate their marriage with their closest friends and family members. To carry on their family traditions, Sylvia and Justin had a Chinese tea ceremony to honor their family and dearest friends. Instead of using hot tea during this warm day in Hawaii, they used Hawaii iced tea. The two knelt in front of the families, presenting them with a cup of tea and a red envelope, while the families gave their words of blessing with a gift. The wedding ceremony was by the ocean among family and friends who traveled long distances to witness Justin and Sylvia tie the knot. The wedding was photographed with both film and digital photography.

    Spectacular Bouquet   posted 2/11/2012
I had found Dellables while doing a search online for someone who could do my bouquet for me. Her site does NO justice for her work at all but she is spectacular. We chatted over email about what I wanted, and I told her old hollywood chic, elegant and gorgeous. I initially wanted all white flowers as a lot of modern brides have but when I saw the pop of color from her site, I KNEW I wanted bright amazing colors instead. I'm not a flower person so I didn't help with many flower choices, but I did tell her I also like the romantic style of garden roses and the like. The bouquet she made me was BEAUTIFUL. I stuck with purple, blue, white, dark purple, red colors. She had an assortment of flowers and hit my vision out of the park! I mailed her some 'beads/jewels' that she used individually, white and blue ones, she didn't use them all but just a few which was just the perfect 'sparkle' if you may. She also incorporated back feathers around the base of the bouquet, and she found this beautiful beaded/jeweled piece to go around the base of the flowers which completed the look exactly. I couldn't be more happy especially when she had to work with me who knows nothing about flowers or how to arrange them or otherwise. They were incredible. I must say my bouquet was expensive, just for the fact they were a bouquet, but she's the same price as everyone else on the island if not on the more inexpensive side. I would hands down have NO problem recommending her to anyone. We were on a strict budget and I was going to go pick up my bouquet to save $50.00 delivery, but she was so concerned with how they looked so took off the charge and delivered them to us on the day of herself. SO wonderful she did, we really really appreciated that as we're still of course paying off our wedding now, months later and more months to come. Dellables is worth every penny IF you want a spectacular bouquet. If not, there are MANY other florists on the island who don't care as much nor will their bouquets blow your mind! But choice is yours.. If you're wondering about my tastes..well let's just say she's the caviar of florists on the island, and I have caviar tastes!!!
