JODY & CHAD'S MAUI WEDDING

We are excited to share Jody & Chad's Maui wedding with you today! We met this wonderful couple at Merriman's on Kapalua Bay for their ceremony and reception. The details and decorations they'd created for their special day were wonderful and so much fun to photograph. Their ceremony took place outside on the deck overlooking the ocean. Jody was escorted up the aisle by her two sons who stood by Jody and Chad's side during the ceremony. They asked their guests to sit anywhere they liked during the ceremony rather than on the traditional 'Bride/Groom's Side'. We love this idea because it really celebrates the joining of two families. After they said 'I do' we headed down to the sand and gorgeous lava rocks for Jody & Chad's couples portraits. When it was time for their reception, the sun was setting below the horizon and turning the entire sky a beautiful orange. So pretty - we love it! Thank you so much Jody & Chad for choosing Simple Maui Wedding for your Maui wedding. We had a wonderful time with you and we hope your time in Hawaii was magical!

Phao Photography had the absolute pleasure and honour to capture a new and lush destination…. Yes . . .  Maui, Hawaii !
The gorgeous Beata and Ron went all out to share and pronounce their love and devotion within these breathtaking islands.
They were wed within the grounds of Merriman’s Kapalua, Maui.
It’s so plain to see that the following tease of photos not only captures the surrounding beauty that is Hawaii, but also gives you a glimpse into the pure love that became one on July 2oth 2012.
Thank you for allowing Phao Photography to be part of your special day!

There are a few places on Maui which are so magical, I could shoot there every day and never get tired of it. One of those places is Merriman’s on the West side of Maui. There is a beautiful bay with calm, clear blue water, soft sand, and a short walk away is an amazing lava ledge that flows out into the ocean. When the sun sets, the golden light hits the black rocks, the sea turns a deep blue, and the stars come out to play. And of course, just up the hill is Merriman’s, one of my favorite restaurants on the island.
We had the pleasure of photographing Lindsay and Aaron’s wedding at this beautiful spot last weekend. They were such a sweet couple, and they had a great group of friends and family to share the moment with them. They wrote their own vows, which didn’t leave a dry eye among the guests. Afterwards, we walked down to the bay for some shots in the sand and water, and then finished up on the lava rocks, where they were treated to the most spectacular sunset of the year!
Congratulations, Lindsay & Aaron!

From the Bride… The theme and feel of the wedding really came together after I decided on my wedding dress, which was designed and made by a local designer in Vancouver. The dress was simple but elegant and the layers of silk organza, embroidery on the bodice and the cathedral length veil had a romantic feeling. Since our surroundings were so beautiful and we did not want to detract from them, we kept the color palette soft with lots of white and cream and some blue and pink accents. We incorporated a subtle beach theme into the wedding using starfish and shell accents. Our wedding stationary featured a small blue starfish. My wedding bouquet had several pretty shells nestled amongst the flowers.
We also wanted our wedding to incorporate some Hawaiian elements. We choose to have a traditional Hawaiian ceremony that included a lei exchange. The start of the ceremony was signaled by three blows of a conch shell. I wore plumeria flowers in my hair. Drew’s wedding band was inlaid with Koa wood and was made by a designer on the Big Island. A ukulele player entertained our guests during the cocktail hour. The delicious dinner menu featured items that were all sourced locally, such as macadamia nut crusted ono and pineapple upside down cake. Our wedding cake was layered with coconut cream and lilikoi (passion fruit) fillings. The lauhala favor boxes were woven in Hawaii and topped with starfish.
Etsy.com was a major source of ideas and inspiration. Most of the hand-made elements of our wedding were purchased from Etsy vendors. This included my pearl wedding jewelry and clutch, the ring pillow, table runners and adorable beach-themed cake topper that was made to look like us. We also wanted to include some details that had special meaning. The eight pearl buttons from the wedding dress that my mother wore almost 40 years earlier on her wedding day were attached to my bouquet and was my something old.  My mother-in-law presented us with silver spoon on our engagement that had been passed down from her own mother as a gift to be given to her grandchildren. The shell-shaped spoon served as the perfect spot for capturing photos of our rings.
