A Childhood Vacation Spot Turns Wedding Venue in This Real Hawaiian Wedding

Words by Courtney Cox

Gretchen and Justin hail from stormy Seattle, so when it came to planning their big day--they saw sunshine in their forecast. Luckily for Justin, he vacationed in Maui almost every year as a child and had ample oppotunity to scout out venues for his future "I Do's." So, when it came time to planning their destination wedding, the location was a no-brainer.

The couple knew there was no place else that would hold as much meaning as Maui, Hawaii. Justin and Gretchen, along with their closest friends and family, gathered at the groom's family condo at the Makena Surf. The ceremony was held on the condo's lush green grounds overlooking the ocean.

Gretchen took advantage of the local flora with colorful tropical flowers brightening up the entire ceremony and reception. The love birds also took the opportunity to frolic on the white-sand beach with the constantly changing sky as their backdrop. By keeping all the events on the same property, the newlyweds' guests were able to truely relax, have a great time and enjoy each other's company.

The reception occurred poolside and really set off a laid back, hip vibe. The wedding party was able to celebrate and party in close quarters. What would a Hawaiian wedding be without little drink umbrellas? Gretchen and Justin also took advantage of Hawaii's beautiful native flowers when it came to the decoration of their cake thanks to
Dellables Flowers.

It's apparent that this couple really wanted their guests to feel as though they could unwind and set free their inner-child. Perhaps the giant, flavored snow cones paid homage to Justin's own childhood. Either way, they're just plain fun! It's obvious from the couples photos that this childhood destination is now home to a whole new collection of fond memories. We hope that Gretchen and Justin approach married life with zeal and childlike enthusiasm.

Gannon’s Maui Wedding | Amanda & Marc

Monday, November 15, 2010

Gannon’s restaurant is always a great venue, and the wedding of Amanda and Marc was no exception.  With a beautifully lit ceremony on the lower lawn, a dinner reception on the upper pond, and a chance to slip away for beach portraits, we were surrounded by beauty throughout the day.  Lori Lawrence of Tropical Maui Weddings did an excellent job, once again, in making sure everything went smoothly throughout the day. Della from Dellables created a beautiful bouquet for Amanda.  Jamie Lawrence serenaded everyone which is always a lovely touch. The staff at Gannon’s provided excellent service to the guests. All in all, the entire day was wonderful.  Thanks to Shaina Kalama for always being such a big help to me. Amanda and Marc, we are so happy for the two of you! Congratulations!

Wailea Maui Wedding | Gretchen & Justin

Friday, September 3, 2010
Gretchen and Justin traveled from Seattle to Maui to tie the knot. The groom’s family has been coming to Maui every year since Justin was young. The family condo at the Makena Surf was the locale  for their wedding ceremony and celebration, making it quite special.  The guests, seated on the lawn overlooking the ocean, witnessed a beautiful ceremony.
Everyone then moved over to the poolside reception to enjoy drinks. Shortly after the lovely couple made their appearance, we snuck away to the beach for sunset photos.  We were graced with an amazing Maui sunset with breathtaking light. The wedding celebration was lively, with a fun bunch of people.  Everyone danced the night away. The evening ended with Justin and his friends celebrating with cigars followed by most of the guys jumping into the pool!
Congratulations, Gretchen and Justin! It was such a pleasure to photograph your wedding.
Much thanks to Kimberlee Aihara for your assistance.

Gannon’s, Wailea | Amanda & Clint

Wednesday, August 11, 2010
The wedding of Amanda and Clint took place at the lovely Gannon’s Restaurant in Wailea, Maui.  Amanda was quite radiant and happy on her wedding day. The couple had their “first look” before the ceremony and shared a very special moment.  Their love was wonderful to witness!  After some photos around the beautiful grounds, the couple was married down on the lower knoll at Gannon’s which has the most breathtaking view.  We then headed down to Poolenalena beach for a sunset photo session.  Guests enjoyed cocktails during sunset back at Gannon’s and warmly greeted the couple as they entered the reception.
Amanda & Clint – congratulations on your marriage! Thank you for having us there to capture your beautiful day.
Much thanks to Anna Kim for assisting me.

Hyatt Maui Wedding | Mele & Brian

Tuesday, July 13, 2010
Mele & Brian were married on the beautiful Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa. Everything about the day, from the equisite florals created by Dellables to the view from the ceremony site to our picture perfect sunset was breathtaking.
We begun in the Mele’s hotel room where all of the girls were getting ready. Mele looked absolutely stunning with her gorgeous gown and her beautiful bouquet. The guys looked pretty spiffy too! The ceremony was quite touching. I especially loved how much they included Brian’s children in the ceremony. It was a beautiful moment to witness.
During their Maui engagement session several months back, I had the pleasure of getting to know a bit more about Mele and Brian. I knew from then that their wedding was going to be a very special one.  On their wedding day, similar to their engagement session, the lovely couple was so affectionate and loving towards one another and they were very comfortable in front of the camera.
The reception was held in a tent under the palm trees and open starry sky. The evening was quite festive and was filled with warm speeches, dancing and celebration.
Congratulations Mele and Brian! We are so happy for the two of you! Much thanks to Kimerlee Aihara for her assistance!
Be sure to catch the slideshow at the end of the post.
